What drives me is the ever new search for an atmosphere, for a connection between audience and play. Space does not serve as a pure illustration of content but as an area of interaction. And creating this is the task of telling stories, almost the duty. Raising questions rather than dismissing the audience with decorative answers.
Martina Segna was born in 1974 in Bolzano. She studied stage design at the Kunstuniversität Graz and architecture at the TU Graz. She completed her stage studies with an MA in Advanced Theater Practice at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. After several assistances ( Volksoper Vienna, at the Theater an der Wien, and at the Bregenz Festival) she was an assistant at the Bavarian State Opera. Martina Segna has been working since 2004 as a freelance scenographer focusing on opera. Her engagements led and lead her, among others, to the Prague State Opera, the National Theater Weimar, the Opera House Skopje, the Prinzregententheater Munich, the National Theater Belgrade, the Theater Basel, the Semperoper Dresden, the Easter Festival Salzburg, the Theater Freiburg, the Opera House Graz, the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Theater Bern, the Opera Dijon.
